MSRB Protections for Online Muni Investors
On August 9, the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB) consulted on new protections for investors trading in municipal securities via the web using electronic brokerages.
•Electronic platforms allow investors to purchase and sell muni securities online without help of professionals.
•Seeks to improve likelihood that such investors will understand the risks, and make appropriate purchases.
•Strengthens account opening process and supervisory practice of dealers which are electronic brokerages.
