Barclays appoints investment banking compliance chief

Barclays has appointed its former group treasurer to monitor the behaviour of staff at its investment bank.

Daniel Hodge took on the new role of chief compliance officer for Barclays International on May 8, according to a register of senior managers in the industry run by the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority.

Barclays International is the non-ring-fenced unit of the UK bank, which comprises significant divisions including corporate and investment banking, wealth management and Barclaycard.

News of his appointment comes just days after Jes Staley, the chief executive of Barclays, was fined £642,430 by UK financial regulators for his attempts to unmask a whistleblower in 2016.
