Avon Seeks a Corporate Counsel


This role will report to the Vice President & Associate General Counsel, Global Functions and Strategic Transactions and will provide counsel on a wide range of corporate and commercial legal matters to business leaders across multiple global functions. This is a front-line role that requires a confident, commercially minded lawyer with proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. To be successful in this role, counsel must maintain strong client relationships, successfully negotiate and draft agreements for the company and provide business-oriented advice to stakeholders on various corporate and commercial legal issues.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including strategic transactional, financing, technology (e.g., Saas and other cloud offerings, software development), licensing, professional services, supply, non-disclosure and intercompany agreements
  • Provide commercially focused legal counsel to business clients regarding laws, regulations and policies impacting various corporate and commercial functions
  • Legal support regarding general finance, tax and treasury matters, including relating to compliance with various debt agreements
  • Legal support related to complex transactions as the need arises, including with respect to strategic alliances
  • Legal support related to technology projects implemented in over 60 markets including mobile and other digital applications as well as ecommerce activities
  • Analyze and interpret complex provisions in multi-part contracts to ensure compliance and resolve client concerns
  • Legal support regarding corporate law and governance matters, including subsidiary maintenance and management
  • Manage efficient use of outside counsel
  • Provide input on corporate policies and support compliance with same
  • Maintain standard contract forms, and help establish and distribute other templates, best practices and guidance materials across the global legal department


  • Licensed to practice law in good standing. Admitted to practice in New York preferred. Excellent academic credentials
  • At least 3 to 4 years of corporate or commercial transactional law experience from a law firm or in-house role
  • Strong understanding of corporate law as well as an ongoing awareness and understanding of developing trends
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, drafting, negotiation, written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and resolve problems
  • Excellent judgment and ability to work independently, manage various tasks and simultaneously balance competing priorities to meet tight deadlines
  • Team player with ability to collaborate with individuals throughout Avon and outside counsel in a professional and business-like manner and in a results-oriented environment
  • Ability to work in a highly confidential environment; highest standards of ethics and professional integrity
